US army chief praises UPDF work in Somalia

The general, who was in the country to offer a lecture, said he was impressed by the skills exhibited by Ugandans.

Jinja- The Uganda People’s Defence soldiers striving to bring peace in war-ravaged Somalia under Amisom have been credited for excellent work.

The United States Army Commanding General of the combined joint task force of the Horn of Africa, Maj Gen Wayne W Grigsby, said he was impressed with the security skills being displayed by the UPDF when he visited Somalia.

“I moved with Lt Gen Muhwezi and officers of the UPDF up to the airport when I was in Somalia but their security skills were superb and I praise their work,’’ Gen Grigsby said.

He made the remarks yesterday during his visit to the Senior Command and Staff College-Kimaka where he lectured staff on leadership and professional soldiering.

The staff who were drawn from Tanzania, Kenya, Burundi, Rwanda, Southern Sudan and Uganda are at the college for further military training.

Call for unity
Gen Grigsby who is also on anti-terrorism mission in Africa advised African countries to always help one another whenever there is an insurgency.

He said wars in African countries can easily be ended if there is cooperation among the armies in the fight against any aggressor.

He said the US government is committed to giving support for stability in African countries to enable citizens enjoy peace.
