An Alberta man has been arrested and is facing a number of weapons-related charges in a case connected to an alleged weapons trafficker in B.C., who is at the centre of an international investigation.

Investigators with the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) said Travis Saunders, 29, was arrested August 19 in Fort McMurray.

A search warrant was executed at his home, and investigators said they found a fully automatic Glock handgun, along with a dozen other firearms and thousands of rounds of ammunition.

ALERT said the modified Glock was capable of firing 1,200 rounds per minute.

Three young children were also found inside the home at the time of the search warrant, and a number of the firearms seized were illegally stored.

It’s believed Saunders obtained the parts to modify the handgun from a 37-year-old man from Langley, B.C. man, who was the target of an investigation by the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of B.C., and the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms and Explosives.

It’s believed the man, identified by investigators as Bradley Michael Friesen; it’s alleged he was selling gun parts to people in Canada, the U.S. and Australia.

As for Saunders, investigators said he was the licensed owner of the firearms found, and he’s facing a number of weapons-related charges, including possession of a prohibited firearm, altering a firearm to discharge a projectile of rapid succession, and unsecured storage of firearms.
