While Parambrata is yet to come on board Raja Sens next, the director is set to approach Raima SenHis Khancha, starring Rituparna Sengupta and Parno Mittra, might have had garnered lukewarm response, but director Raja Sen seems to have left the box-office failure behind and moved on. The director is gearing up to start his next, Maya Mridanga, based on Syed Mustafa Sirajs famous novel. The film stars Rituparna Sengupta and Chiranjeet Chakraborty in lead roles.
Parambrata Chatterjee too is set to play an important role.
Music holds the key to this venture, which revolves around folk artistes of Birbhum
and Murshidabad
. Leaving no stones unturned, Raja has roped in four music directors SubhendhuMaity
, Abhijit
Bose, Akash
and ParthoSengupta
to score for the film. While Tanmoy
Bose will work as a music advisor, Sirsha
Ray is the films DoP
. Giving an insight into the storyline, Raja explains, What drives an artiste to stick to an art form all his life? Is it money, fame, success or affluence? None of these. What attracts him is maya
or the illusion involved in creativity. What runs through an artistes blood is nothing but captivating wonder and my film is about that. Elaborating more on the film, Raja adds, Driven by illusion, an artiste loses interest in his family. He is
misinterpreted by society; his artistic confidence misunderstood as arrogance. His impatience passed off as madness. On the one hand, he gets love from people; on the other hand, he suffers from dissatisfaction. I am set to delve into this strange mysticism that abounds in art. Chiranjeet
plays a musician, while Rituparna
is set to do yet another important role. I will approach Raima
Sen for another interesting role. A host of topline
singers from the city, including LopamudraMitra
, Raghab and SrikantoAcharya
have lent their voices to the soundtrack. Rituparna, who has worked with the director in the past, says, I have great regards for Rajada
, as all his films have a positive message to convey. His portrayal of women is no less praiseworthy. I was floored when I first heard the script. I am looking forward to the shoot. Chiranjeet
, upbeat about his next, adds, I play JhakshuUstad
, a traditional singer whose life revolves around music. This film is a bewildering tale of an artistes life. Parambrata
, who loved the concept of Maya Mridanga
, is yet to sign on the dotted line. The story has shaped up very well. The subject itself is unique and so is my character. But my dates are clashing, so I am currently trying to work things out. Lets hope for the best, says the actor with a smile. The film will go on the floors from October 15.
