Striker William Gros has been released by Oldham, Latics manager Lee Johnson has confirmed.

The 22-year-old, who used to play for Johnson's former club Kilmarnock, signed a month-to-month contract over the summer and started in the Capital One Cup tie against Middlesbrough. However, after being hauled off at half-time in a disappointing 3-0 loss, Johnson has revealed Gros is now free to find another club. Speaking at his press conference on Thursday, he said: "I spoke to Willie last night and he is unlucky really. He has done well and he's shown a good attitude. I felt for him, and us, it wasn't quite right. "At this stage of his career he needs to be starting games. He's a good player and he did a job for us when he needed to so I wish him well for the future."
