BIJAPUR:Police have arrested assistant cook and woman warden Jyothi of a residential girls’ school who allegedly harassed students.
S D Biradar, principal of the Rani Chennamma Residential School at Almel village, Sindagi taluk, filed a police complaint against Vijaykumar Yantaman on Wednesday. The cook, posted in the school hostel, did not attend duty on Wednesday.
The girls say the cook would ask them to massage his legs at night. Whenever they told him his activities were unacceptable, he would threaten them.
Additional superintendent of police Jinendra Khanagavi said some of the girls called the child helpline when “his madness” increased by the day.
Disgusted, the students even sent a written complaint to district helpline 1098 coordinator Sunanda Tolbandi.
Residents of the village claim the cook was emboldened by negligence on part of the principal and the hostel warden.
Bijapur district minister M B Patil has instructed the district administration to investigate the case seriously and take stringent action against the cook.
