MOSCOW, August 21 (RIA Novosti) - Twitter has suspended accounts that shared graphic images of the alleged beheading of American photojournalist James Wright Foley by an ISIS fighter, Twitter CEO Dick Costolo announced in a tweet on Wednesday.

The move came after the social network users demanded that Twitter’s management address the issue of the disturbing footage appearing in users’ feeds without warning.

A massive campaign was launched urging people not to share the video which had been posted on YouTube on Tuesday night that featured an ISIS extremist executing the 40-year-old American, who went missing in Syria in November 2012.

A large number of people suggested denying ISIS the ability to promote its act of terrorism by using the hashtag #ISISmediablackout and posting older photos of Foley smiling instead.

Intelligence experts are currently trying to identify the masked executioner in the video, in which he points a knife at the camera with his left hand and says:

"This is James Wright Foley, an American citizen, of your country. As a government, you have been at the forefront of the aggression towards the Islamic State."

Addressing President Obama, he warned that they might execute another journalist, Time magazine contributor Steven Sotloff, if the US continues its intervention in Iraq.
