MBABANE – The 2014 edition of the DStv EUTELSAT Star Awards is back as registration is now open.

The eventual winner stands a chance to win a trip to France to be part of the DStv EUTELSAT launch.
This project is nothing but a competition which encourages pupils between 14-19 years to write essay or design a poster about the benefits of satellite technology on the continent.

Since its inception, the competition has drawn over 3 000 across the continent and has invigorated a passion for science among the younger generation.

Explained

MultiChoice Swaziland’s General Manager Phumi Drummond explained that the awards were open to all pupils from Secondary or combined schools in Africa where Multichoice maintains operations.

“The DStv EUTELSAT Star Awards comprises national and international adjudication. The first assessment of entries is at country level with a panel of local judges selecting country winners and runners-up who go through a round of preliminary judging which culminates in the selection of the final winners,” she elaborated.

She also stated,” Last year the panel was chaired by an inspirational European Space Agency Astronaut, Paolo Nespoli assisted by a panel of industry experts who commended the standards of the competition,”
She explained that the overall winners will get a lifetime trip for two to the EUTELSAT facilities in Paris with the essay winner travelling onwards to witness a live rocket launch.

“Runners up will win a trip to South Africa as guests of MultiChoice Africa. Schools attended by the overall winners will receive a DStv installation, including a dish, television, PVR decoder and free access to the DStv Education bouquet,” said Drummond.
The winners will be announced at a glittering ceremony in Zambia in February 2015.

Forms

Entry forms can be obtained from all MultiChoice Resource Centres (these are within 17 schools in the country), Offices and can be downloaded through www.dstvstarawards.com.
Entries can be prepared in English French and Portuguese.

This year’s question is ‘Imagine you are a satellite, orbiting high above your own country or even above your own home or school, what would you see, what would you like to tell the people below, what would you like people to know, what would you like them to think about, if you could send them a message or image, what would you like to say or show?’
