Additional Solicitor-General Pinky Anand said temporary measures would be introduced to regulate plying of e-rickshaws till proper rules were framed.

August 21, 2014 08:20 am | Updated 08:20 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The interim ban on plying of e-rickshaws in the Capital has been extended by another day as arguments on a public interest writ petition seeking regulation of battery-operated rickshaws remained inconclusive in the Delhi High Court on Wednesday. The matter was adjourned till Thursday.

A Division Bench, to which a March 1 advertisement of the Delhi Government’s Transport Department for certification of e-rickshaws was submitted, said the process for certification and issue of commercial licences to e-rickshaw operators enabling them to run the vehicles as three-wheeled scooter rickshaws should be completed.

The Bench, comprising Justice B. D. Ahmed and Justice Siddharth Mridul, asked the Union and Delhi Governments to inform the Court of the status of implementation of the provisions made in the advertisement. Additional Solicitor-General Pinky Anand said temporary measures would be introduced to regulate plying of e-rickshaws till proper rules were framed.
