BJP team from Ladakh calls on Nitin Gadkari

NEW DELHI, Aug 20: BJP Ladakh delegation comprising of 15 members led by Thupstan Chhewang, MP Ladakh, Cherring Dorje President BJP Leh and Haji Khudam, President BJP Kargil called on Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road, Transport and Shipping and demanded early completion of pending works of his Ministry in Ladakh region.
The delegation has apprised the Minister that Ladakh region remains cut off for seven to eight months from the rest of the nation and asked him for speedy development of Road connectives in the region.
The team expressed concern over slow pace of work on Chadar Road construction by BRO and requested for declaration of Nyemo-Padum-Darcha as National Highway as soon as possible. Considering the major challenge in the trans-Himalayan territory the team asked to give a practical shape to the plans to bring a railway line to Leh via Bilaspur in Himachal Pradesh. Likewise, the team also asked for early completion of Zozila tunnel and the entire allied infrastructure should be completed soon. The demand for the construction of multipurpose tunnel at Khardungla, the world’s highest Jeepable pass, was also tabled to the Minister by BJP leaders.
A new motorable bridge over river Indus at Agling – Palam was also demanded by the delegation which may be got surveyed and included in a suitable scheme for next year.
As the Minster had indicated during his recent interaction with Members of Parliaments that the Minister proposed to break all large projects in small packages and allot these packages to local constructors, BJP Ladakh welcomes this initiative and requested the Minister to implement the same on priority. This is important for hill areas like Ladakh where the big contractors and agencies have not been performing well due to difficult working conditions there. BJP Ladakh has requested the decision to be expedited.
The delegation demanded opening of road to Skardu (Gilgit), opening of the road from Kargil to Skardu Gilgit in the territory under Pakistan’s illegal occupation the team said it will boost trade and tourism in the region much like the Sringar Muzaffarabad road in the Valley and Poonch Rawalakot road in Jammu.
Construction of a multi-purpose tunnel at Khardung-La which has been a long-pending demand of the people of Ladakh was also tabled by the team BJP Ladakh to the Minister.
