Kiradech to undergo knee surgery

Kiradech to undergo knee surgery

Thailand's Kiradech Aphibarnrat plans to undergo knee surgery, his handlers said yesterday.

He felt pain in his right knee during this month's PGA Championship where he withdrew in the second round.

The knee went under the knife when Kiradech was 10 years old following an accident.

His manager Pimporn Rojsattarat said that her client would decide whether to undergo surgery after the KLM Open in the Netherlands from Sept 11-14.

"He always feels pain in the knee when he plays too many events or practise too much,'' she said.

''He thinks it may be the right time to undergo surgery.''

The reigning Asian Tour No.1 was 59th in the world rankings at the end of last year after winning his maiden European Tour title in Malaysia.

Dubbed Asia's John Daly, Kiradech has struggled this year and is now 120th in the world.

Kiradech, who also has thyroid problems, hopes to regain form and secure a place for the European Tour's season-ending DP World Tour Championship from Nov 20-23.

It will be a difficult task for the 25-year-old to earn a spot at the lucrative DP World Tour Championship which is for the top-60 players on the Race to Dubai.

Kiradech has played 12 European Tour events this year and is 129th in the Race to Dubai.

Meanwhile, the three-million-baht Singha All Thailand Championship will tee off today at Singha Park Khon Kaen Golf Club.

The tournament features a number of Thailand's leading players including Prayad Marksaeng, Thaworn Wiratchant and Chapchai Nirat.
