‘IM men were planning poison letters for targets’

The chargesheet stated that the suspected IM operatives had conducted a recce of Taj Mahal and Agra Fort to carry out bomb blast.

The Special Cell of the Delhi Police — in its supplementary chargesheet — has stated that during questioning of suspected IM operatives, Tehsin Akhtar and Waqar Azhar, officers found that the two had planned to use poisonous chemical substances to kill their targets.

Police claimed that the poisonous chemical substances were to be used in letters they planned to be sent to targets. The allegations were incorporated in the chargesheet filed in a case related to the the setting up of an illegal arms factory in the national capital.

“During their questioning, Waqar and Tehsin had disclosed that they had made efforts to make poison with the help of chemicals such as magnesium sulphate, acetone and castor seeds,” police said. “The purpose behind making the poison was to attempt targeted killing by sending letters soaked with poison,” the chargesheet stated.

In the chargesheet, police have named suspected IM operatives Tehsin Akhtar, Zia-ur-Rehman, Mohd Waqar Azhar, Mohd Maroof, Mohd Saquib Ansari and Imteyaz Alam as accused. They have been chargesheeted under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Explosive Substances Act, Arms Act and the IPC.

The chargesheet stated that the suspected IM operatives had conducted a recce of Taj Mahal and Agra Fort to carry out bomb blast. “On April 18, 2014, accused Saquib Ansari… led the police team to hotel ‘KGN’ in Agra where he, along with Barqat (suspected IM operative), had stayed on March 7, 2014. They had gone to Agra on the directions of Riyaz Bhatkal to conduct a recce of Agra Fort, Taj Mahal for blasts,” the chargesheet said.
