Accused arrested for auto driver murder

The City Crime Branch (CCB) police on Wednesday arrested the prime accused in the murder of an autorickshaw driver at Thokottu Junction on Friday night.

MANGALORE: The City Crime Branch (CCB) police on Wednesday arrested the prime accused in the murder of an autorickshaw driver at Thokottu Junction on Friday night.
The arrested is Uday alias Udayraj, 35, resident of Kotekar. Based on a tip off that the accused was near a clinic at Bajal, the CCCB police raided the place and arrested Uday. He has been handed over to Ullal police.
Uday had stabbed Yatish, 32, from Kolya while he was coming out of a bar at Thokkotttu. The incident occurred when Yatish was in Maya bar along with his friends Kailas Babu, Jeevan, Sreejit and Kishore. Another group sitting nearby had made fun of Babu's singing, which angered Yatish. Yatish objected to their remarks and this led to an altercation. When Yatish was going out of the bar, Uday stabbed him. Yatish was shifted to a hospital in Mangalore, he was pronounced dead on arrival. The group had phoned Uday to teach the victim a lesson. Uday was involved in 2002 murder case of Srinivas Bajal and had served five years imprisonment.
Police said they are on the look out for others persons who abetted the crime.
