Bollywood actress Neha Sharma returned to her hometown Bhagalpur in Bihar to give a boost to the prospects of her father in the Assembly by-election slated to be held on Thursday.

Neha, who made her debut in Mohit Suri film Crook opposite Emraan Hashmi in 2010 before featuring in Ekta Kapoor's hit Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum, Yamla Pagla Deewana, Jayatabhai Ki Luv Story and Youngistaan undertook a roadshow through the silk city along with her father Ajeet Sharma, the Congress candidate who is being supported by Nitish Kumar's JD(U) and Lalu Prasad's RJD.

"I am Bhagalpur's daughter and have come back to my hometown to seek votes for my Papa," she told the crowd as she travelled across several localities during her four-hour roadshow on Monday. "I request you all to vote for my father."

She undertook a roadshow through the silk city along with her father Ajeet Sharma.

Neha, who studied at the local Mount Carmel School before pursuing a career in Bollywood and south Indian movies, said that she had been working in the film industry in Mumbai with the blessings of the people of Bhagalpur. "I have been winning the hearts of people by entertaining them on the screen," she said. "My father wants to win your heart by serving the people of this city."

The road show of the 26-year-old actress, who has featured in a bold photo shoot as the cover girl of this month's edition of FHM magazine, brought traffic to a standstill as hundreds of her admirers followed her open vehicle through various areas of the prestigious constituency. Her road show, which passed through Nathnagar, Sahebganj and many crowded localities and gave a tough time to the local police to manage her enthusiastic admirers along the way, left the Congressmen enthused. "We are proud of her achievements because she has carved a niche for herself in Bollywood without having any godfather," said Suman Kumar, a local college student who was part of her roadshow. The response left Neha ecstatic. "Visiting my hometown...what a warm welcome? truly overwhelmed.. thnk u #bhagalpur love u all," she twitted soon after her roadshow.

In the 2010 state assembly elections, the Bhagalpur seat was won by Ashwini Choubey of the Bharatiya Janata Party. But he resigned after he won the Lok Sabha polls earlier this year.
