Mudgal Probe Panel denies any interaction with N Srinivasan or Gurunath Meiyappan

There were reports that a member of Mudgal panel was in Chennai to quiz the duo

Mumbai: The Retd Justice Mukul Mudgal-led IPL probe committee today made it clear that they will not be travelling to England to interact with members of the Indian cricket team.

It also clarified that the panel members did not speak to BCCI president-in-exile and ICC chairman, N Srinivasan, or his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan, who was arrested by the Mumbai Police for alleged betting in the wake of the IPL spot-fixing scandal in 2013.

The Indian cricket board, as per the directions of the Justice Mudgal IPL Probe Committee issued a press release.

"Press Release dated 20.8.2014

“The Committee on 15-16 August 2014 met at Chennai and interacted with its investigative team and other investigative authorities.

The Committee would like to clarify that neither the Committee nor its members interacted with Mr. Srinivasan or Mr. Meiyappan on the 15-16 August 2014 in Chennai or at any other time during the second leg of its investigation ordered by the Hon’ble Supreme Court on 16.5.2014. The Committee or any of its members also have no intention of travelling outside the country for any interaction with the players, contrary to some speculations in the media. The Committee is fully alive of the fact that any interaction with the players during a series may disturb their poise and concentration.”

Earlier, there were reports that a member of Mudgal panel was in Chennai to quiz N Srinivasan and Gurunath Meiyappn. However, the recent press release from BCCI counter that claim.
