Rani Mukerji found a festive reason to hit the Mardaani mode on Monday on the occasion of Janmashtami, when she took to smashing the ritualistic handi at a Dahi Handi festival in Mumbai. Rani's partaking in the activity was in sync with the action role of a lady cop she essays in her next, Mardaani, due out this Friday.

Rani was among half a dozenodd stars who took to joining the annual bonhomie that celebrates the birthday of lord Krishna. Dahi Handi is the sporting ritual based on mythical tales about Krishna stealing curd from earthen pots. While the festival is popular in most parts of north India, Mumbai especially comes alive with its smattering of Bollywood stardust.

Monday saw the likes of Madhuri Dixit, Varun Dhawan, Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty come out to interact with fans at various Dahi Handi venues across the city. The presence of stars at various pandals added to the lustre of the festivities, even as various local teams took on each other in handi-smashing contests like every year.

Posing for photo-ops at sundry venues were also film-maker Madhur Bhandarkar, a regular at the festival every year, besides Jeetendra, Anil Kapoor, Govinda, Boman Irani and Nikhil Advani. A few big-ticket festivals featured live performances by a few Bollywood starlets including Kainaat Arora and Isha Sharvani.
