ALLAHABAD: The water level of rivers Ganga and Yamuna continued to recede at two places after a serious threat to low-lying areas in the city. However, the water level at Phaphamau remained unchanged.
The irrigation department has now started monitoring the water level round the clock as last year, the flood water from Uttarakhand had brought havoc in the city, even destroying the STP bund.
The water also started receding from low-lying localities of satellite town of Badra Sunauti in Jhunsi where people were commuting on roads filled with the flood water.
However, the standing crops in the low-lying areas of the satellite towns including Jhunsi and Naini have been destroyed due to the water. The crops in villages like Arail, Mawaiya, Lawayan Kala, Mahewa and Madauka of Naini have also been submerged in the water.
According to the data from flood control division, the water level of river Yamuna was registered at 79.31 metres and receding on Tuesday morning.
Similarly, water level in river Ganga passing through the Phaphamau was recorded at 79.92 metres.
In Chatnag, the water level was recorded at 78.64 metres. It has receded over two metres in the past one week. RP Yadav, executive engineer, irrigation department said, “In the next couple of days, there is no threat of rivers Ganga and Yamuna increasing further as the water is not being released from upper regions.”
