SCF names Palmetto resident its board chairman [The Bradenton Herald :: ](Bradenton Herald (FL) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Aug. 20--BRADENTON -- The State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota District Board of Trustees elected Palmetto resident Edward Bailey, finance manager for Sarasota Ford, as chairman at its annual organizational meeting Tuesday. Sarasota resident Lori Moran, business owner, was elected vice chairwoman. Bailey, first appointed by Gov. Rick Scott in 2011 and reappointed in 2013, was nominated by fellow trustees and former chairs Dr. Craig Trigueiro and Carlos Beruff. "Thank you for your leadership prior to mine and for doing all the hard work," Bailey said to Trigueiro and Beruff. He also expressed appreciation to board members for their confidence in him. Moran, also appointed by Scott in 2011, was nominated by Eric Robinson and Trigueiro. In new business, the board approved: --SCF's Library and Learning Center Project. It established a steering committee to discuss project goals and strategies and report back to the board in September; --The recommended list of prequalified construction contractors for September-August 2015; --Interior modifications to the SCF Bradenton Student Services Building 1; --a $717,659 contract with Canvas for learning management system software service; --Revised salary schedule and SCF Collegiate School probationary contract; and --Putting out an invitation to negotiate for a compensation consultant. The board also approved two grant proposals sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor and Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College Career Training including: --The $2.27 million advanced manufacturing certification, education and employment grant to allow SCF and community partners to develop and deliver a variety of short-term certification training programs in advanced manufacturing. --The Improving Heath care Employment, Achievement, Resources and Training Consortium Grant, in which SCF is partnering with 11 institutions to help participants overcome gaps in knowledge, skills and credentials to fulfill Florida's growing need for health care professionals and strengthen the state's economy. If funded, SCF would receive $978,185 of the $15 million grant.
