NAGPUR: Sakkardara police have booked a couple for alleged abetment of suicide of a woman who had hanged herself after drowning her one-and-half year old daughter into a water tank on August 13.
Police had found a suicide note in the New Subhedar Layout, Nashik Nagar, home of Jyotsana Gondane. She had mentioned that harassment by her two relatives had forced her to end her life.
She also wrote that since there would be no one to look after her daughter, she was taking her along. Gondane had even added love and praises for her husband.
Investigations by police confirmed that she had been harassed by their relatives Manisha and her husband Hemraj Bawne. Police informed Jyotsana had invested some money for high returns in a company named 'Vintatek Investment Company' owned by Karmaveer Telang of Shindewahi, Chandrapur. Jyotsana's husband Balveer was a mutual friend of Telang and Bawne as well. Like Balveer, Bawne too had invested Rs 1 lakh in the company for high returns. However, the company turned out to be a fraud and Bawne couple started harassing Jyotsana for getting their money back.
Police informed that Bawnes were distant relatives of Jyotsana. It is learnt Bawne had even threatened her of dire consequences. The warnings and regular harassment made Jyotsana end her life.
She was found hanging from the ceiling hook while her daughter Ishika's body was found in the water tank at her home. She was staying with her husband and two children as a tenant at Keshavrao Wade's house. The suicide came to light after Gondane's son woke up and saw his mother hanging. He alerted Wade who had later informed police. Gondane's husband, Balveer, a photographer, had been out of town when she took the extreme step.
Police had initially registered case of an accidental death. Both the accused have been booked but are yet to be arrested.
