Julio Cesar has agreed a deal with Benfica
Brazil goalkeeper Julio Cesar has joined Benfica after being released by QPR.
The Portuguese giants confirmed on their website on Tuesday evening that the 34-year-old had signed a two-year deal.
Julio Cesar, who arrived at Loftus Road on a free transfer in August 2012, had been under contract for another two years with the Barclays Premier League newcomers.
A statement on www.qpr.co.uk earlier in the evening read: "QPR have agreed to release goalkeeper Julio Cesar, with the player set to sign for Portuguese side Benfica.
"The Brazilian, who was contracted until June 2016, has left Loftus Road by mutual consent with immediate effect."
Julio Cesar played in all seven of Brazil's matches at this summer's World Cup - including their 7-1 semi-final defeat at the hands of Germany - but was omitted from the 22-man squad new national team coach Dunga announced on Tuesday for next month's friendlies.
The former Flamengo custodian joined QPR following seven years at Inter Milan, with whom he won five Serie A titles and the 2010 Champions League among numerous other trophies.
After making 27 starts in all competitions for The Hoops, Julio Cesar joined MLS side Toronto FC in February and played seven times for the Canadian outfit before being recalled by QPR last month.
However, he was not involved in Rangers' opening Barclays Premier League match at the weekend, with Rob Green starting in goal and Brian Murphy sitting on the bench in the 1-0 home loss to Hull.
QPR added in their statement: "The club would like to thank Julio for his services to QPR and wish him all the best for the future."
