BRTS corridor a nightmare for commuters
JAIPUR: It seems there is no headway for BRTS corridor on Ajmer road. After wasting huge amount of public money, it seems Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has left behind a dangerous route for the commuters.
As the awarded firm has stopped the construction work, the area has become commuters' nightmare. Vehicles running at high speed at the incomplete corridor are at risk of accidents.
Abhishek Sharam of Ajmer Road said, "Work is going on at snail's pace since the roads have been dug up in the area. Also, the divider work is incomplete and with no signage, many accidents have been witnessed in the past."
The previous urban development and housing (UDH) minister directed several times to widen the road up to 200 feet. But no work was done in this regard. Moreover, the corridor constructed at the middle of the road, is hampering traffic flow. "The railings of the corridor have uprooted. It has become very risky to travel on this route," said Madhav Mishra , a resident.
Sources in the department claim the project is stalled due to paucity of funds. Recently, the Central government has refused to fund the bus rapid transit system (BRTS) project, phase- 4 that was proposed to connect Ajmer Road and the airport after extending the existing corridor. The sanctions were supposed to be granted under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).
Sources in the department said, "Centre has directed to send the revised detailed project report (DPR) of the projects. We will incorporate the details sought by the Centre. The sanctioning has been put on hold till that time."
In the previous government's regime JDA had decided to connect the BRTS route to Sanganer airport via B2 bypass. "The project was extended from Government Hostel to Amrit Nagar (New Sanganer Road) route to connect the airport.
