TOKYO -- Japan's NEC will help Mexico develop satellites domestically, providing technologies in hopes of winning orders for related equipment.
The company recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the Mexican government, which plans to build the earth observation satellites by 2020. The orbiters will weigh less than 4 tons each and will be used for disaster prevention and resource exploration. To transfer technology from abroad, the government apparently selected NEC for its strengths in satellite miniaturization and communication systems.
