What are you folks doing this weekend?
The Times of India International Folk Festival brings you a slice of folk culture with a multitude of art forms

Art defies borders, and the performances by artistes from different parts of the country at the Festival are testimony to that. From Assamese elegance with Sattariya folk dance by Jatin Goswami and his troupe, to the traditional Chhau dance from Purulia, Mahishasur Badh by the Tarapada Rajak group accompanied by other artists, and OttanThullal from Kerala with Kalamandalam Mohanakrishnan Nair and his troupe , there is much to look forward to.

Chandana Wickramasinghe’s dance group will render a slice of Sri Lanka with contemporary moves, while Sonal Mansingh’s Indic-Greek confluence will find commonalities in the mythologies of both cultures through dance.

The tunes of Rajasthani will be brought by Chugge Khan’s folk music, and Kutchi goodness will come through Latif’s poetry. As Mooralala Marwada entrances us to his Kaafi, Mitha Khan and Sumar Kadu bring Latif’s love poems to life with the Waee form of singing. Unni Lovlid will give a peek into the Norwegian world of folk music – Nodjford.

Karnataka’s Yakshagana Puppets and Indonesian Puppetry by Wawan Gunawan will have you hooked. Also witness Mallakhamb – one of the oldest forms of martial art in India — by Uday Deshpande.

There are also authentic cuisines to sample, and prizes to be won.
