Playing a proactive role, the Computer Society of India (CSI) is planning a series of initiatives to woo IT investors to Andhra Pradesh in general and Visakhapatnam in particular.
Stating that Visakhapatnam, which is the largest city in Andhra Pradesh, with an IT turnover of Rs.1,600 crore had the potential to become one of the leading IT hubs in the country, CSI city chapter chairman and RINL Director (Commercial) T.K. Chand told reporters on Tuesday that they were confident that the New IT Policy unveiled by the government would transform the city into an important IT hub.
CSI is planning to hold a series of workshops, conventions, and roadshows to showcase the investment potential of Visakhapatnam.
“We also want to prepare engineering and management students from the region to become job-ready graduates by enhancing their skills,” he said.
CSI has 70 chapters, 418 student branches, and more than 90,000 members, including leaders from various industries, scientists, and academicians. It has an MoU with organisations such as Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), USA, British Computer Society (BCS), England, Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA), and Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC). It has been working since 1965 for spreading IT awareness.
The local chapter has over 700 active members and 24 student chapters. CSI-Vizag and Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd have been in the forefront for adopting many IT initiatives.
Mr. Chand said Visakhapatnam was one of the 100 fastest growing cities in the world and the biggest city in Andhra Pradesh.
There are a host of public sectors like HPCL, BHEL, and HSL, and 50 management and engineering colleges in and around the city. Around 4,000 engineering graduates pass out every year from the city alone.
Among others, RINL General Manager K.V.S.S. Rajeswara Rao, Deputy General Manager Suman Das, and Senior Manager Paramata Satyanarayana (all from IT Department) were present.
