Don't think for a moment that making a giant luxury sedan handle actual curves at speed without scrubbing its front tires right off their rims is an easy task. It's not, and surely there are some happy Mercedes-Benz engineers contorting their faces into a pale imitation of a smile while watching their creation wallow around the Nordschleife like a warthog taking a mud-bath. It is impressive. It's also, perhaps, missing the point.

The Green Hell is supposed to be just that: hell. The place where the hardest-core vehicles are tuned to deal with tortuous conditions, and go faster because of it all. But we've now got Land Rovers setting times a tick over 8 minutes. Remember when the 8 minute mark was something a legitimate sport sedan could brag about? Well, a 5500 lbs SUV can do the deed, and who knows what this Maybach limousine will be able to manage.

What do track times have to do with SUVs and limousines? Beats me, really. If you have any epiphanies while you watch the Maybach flop about the sinuous track, feel free to share with us.
