'Beetlejuice 2' Release Date, News: Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder Rooted to Reprise Their Roles

Barely six months ago, it was revealed that a sequel for Tim Burton's horror-comedy classic "Bettlejuice" might come into a reality as the director has recently entered in preliminary talks with a screenwriter and producer Seth Graham-Smith, who was tasked to work on the sequel script.

Schmoes Know confirmed the news that the screenplay for the installment is already complete and the "Frankenweenie" director is rooted to helm the film project.

The Wrap later shared the news that part of Burton's plan for the movie would be for Michael Keaton to reprise his role as the "obnoxious, devious ghost" named BettleJuice.

In an interview with MTV, the "Need for Speed" actor gave hints on the development of the film.

"I've e-mailed Tim a couple of times, talked to the writer a couple of times, but all really, really preliminary stuff. I always said that's the one thing I'd like to do again, if I ever did anything again. But it kind of required Tim to be involved some way or another," he admitted.

"Now it looks like he is involved. And without giving too much away we've talked to each other, and e-mailed each other, and if he's in, it's going to be hard not to be in," the 62-year-old actor said, suggesting his eagerness to once again reprise his role.

Latest rumblings meanwhile indicated that Winona Ryder might also be returning as the gothic character Lydia Deetz, but only this time, a little bit older.

"I'm kind of sworn to secrecy but it sounds like it might be happening. It's 27 years later. And I have to say, I love Lydia Deetz so much. She was such a huge part of me. I would be really interested in what she is doing 27 years later," the 42-year-old actress said.

As of now, there's still no concrete information with regards to the release date and cast for the purported "Beetlejuice 2" movie.
