Iftikar Pasha, a citizen of Bangalore joined Twitter on August 5 to begin communicating with the Bangalore city police.

A private firm employee, Pasha had been getting anonymous threat calls after he lost cash worth Rs 4 lakh and 100 grams of gold in a robbery at his house. Pasha took to social media after no action was taken by the local police, when he had registered a complaint 2 months ago. He tweeted @cpblr on 5th, 12th and 16th August stating that his life was in danger because of the threats.

On 16th August, Pasha replied to a tweet by the Police Commissioner on a goon being booked under the 'Goonda Act'. Pasha's tweet read about the danger to his life and the emergency situation along with his contact details. The Commissioner tweeted his response promptly following which the local police visited Pasha's residence to collect the necessary information.

Following the Delhi Police commissioner's suit of Twitter engagement, the police department of Bangalore city is trending on social media. The new Bangalore Police Commissioner MN Reddi, who was appointed in the wake of a series of rape cases in Bangalore has been addressing issues of citizens @cpblr on Twitter.

Bangalore police has been undergoing several transformations and have been keeping themselves abreast with the latest technology for a long time now. The city police had started a community social media engagement programme back in 2012 to increase their presence on all kinds of social media.

But issues pertaining to citizens woes being resolved over social media is a huge step forward taken by any police department in India, Bangalore being the first. The Facebook page of 'Bangalore City Police' had a post that invited citizens to 'tweet your troubles, ideas... @cpblr'.

Reddi has been constantly replying to citizen's tweets and has ensured that this engagement will continue post his term.
