ALCATEL ONETOUCH LAUNCHES THREE NEW MOBILE DEVICES IN CANADA AT TELUS AND KOODO; JUST IN TIME FOR BACK-TO-SCHOOL, ALCATEL ONETOUCH LAUNCHES THE IDOL X+ AND POP ICON SMARTPHONES ALONG WITH THE POP 8 TABLET IN CANADA

Alcatel Onetouch has released a brand new lineup of mobile devices coming to Canada just in time for back-to-school. Headlining the new device lineup is the North American debut of the first true octacore powered smart phone, the Idol X plus, available beginning Aug. 20 with Telus Corp. and Koodo. In addition, Alcatel Onetouch's newest tablet, the Pop 8, will be available starting Aug. 20 only at Telus. These devices follow the first Alcatel Onetouch smart phone launched with Telus last week, the Pop Icon, which is currently available with Telus prepaid and Koodo. All three devices include a robust two-year manufacturer warranty in addition to Telus's device protection options, Telus device care and device care premium. "We're excited to expand our footprint in North America through this new partnership with Telus and Koodo," said Steve Cistulli, senior vice-president of North America for Alcatel Onetouch. "Through partnerships like these we continue to gain traction with consumers, which align with our commitment to offer premium designs and easy-to-use features across all our devices, complemented by affordability for our customers."

Alcatel Onetouch Idol X plus

Combining innovation with affordability, the Idol X plus will start at just $0 a month with on a two-year term with a minimum $45 monthly plan or $350 outright at Telus. As the first smart phone in North America powered by true octacore technology, the Idol X plus features a two-gigahertz octacore chipset from MediaTek, which enables the device to utilize all eight cores to run simultaneously, offering the ultimate combination of performance and power efficiency for enhanced multitasking and more hours to enjoy movies, music and gaming.

Key features of the Idol X plus include:

  • Five-inch full high-definition IPS 1,920-by-1,080, 440-pixel-per-inch capacitive touch display;
  • Two-gigahertz octacore MediaTek processor;
  • 13-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, LED flash, four-times digital zoom and EIS video stabilization;
  • Ultraslim, lightweight design, weighing only 130 grams;
  • 2,500-mega-ampere-hour battery for up to 16 hours of talk time and up to 600 hours of standby time;
  • Two gigabytes of RAM and 16 gigabytes of storage (expandable to 32 gigabytes via MicroSD);
  • Android 4.4 KitKat operating system.

Alcatel Onetouch Pop 8

The Pop 8 is a wallet-friendly, spacious eight-inch tablet available for $0 with Telus's easy tablet program or $240 outright. Featuring an efficient 1.3-gigahertz quad-core processor, the Pop 8 is designed to be a sleek and lightweight tablet for easy portability to stay connected on the go. The Android tablet is powered by a 4,060-mega-ampere-hour battery, making it great for extended movie watching and gaming.

Key features of the Pop 8 include:

  • Eight-inch IPS 1,280-by-800, 16-million-colour capacitive touch display;
  • Quad-core 1.3-gigahertz MediaTek processor;
  • 4,060-mega-ampere-hour battery for up to 3.5 hours of gaming, 5.5 hours of video playback and 350 hours of standby time;
  • One gigabyte of RAM and four gigabytes of storage (expandable to 64 gigabytes via MicroSD);
  • Two-megapixel main camera with additional front-facing camera;
  • Lightweight, thin design, weighing 325 grams.

Alcatel Onetouch Pop Icon

The Pop Icon offers a value-focused smart phone priced at $150 with Telus prepaid. Running Android 4.4 KitKat, the Pop Icon has five-inch qHD IPS 960-by-540-pixel display and is powered by a 1.2-gigahertz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. The device also comes with a five-megapixel autofocus main camera with LED flash and digital zoom, a VGA front camera, and packs a 2,000-mega-ampere-hour battery capable of up to eight hours of talk time and 660 hours of standby time. Internally, the Pop Icon has one gigabyte of RAM and four gigabytes of storage, which can be expanded up to 32 gigabytes via MicroSD.
