‘Kalapramanam,’ a book on percussion maestro Mattannur Sankarankutty, was released here on Monday. Writer T. Padmanabhan handed over the first copy of the book, written by journalist Sreejith K. Warrier, to percussionist Peruvanam Kuttan Marar at the function.

Mr. Padmanabhan said that Mr. Sankarankutty was one among the artistes who had made the people of north Kerala proud.

“He has just started the expedition in the stream and the people of Kerala will be lucky enough to see him on the peak of his career in the days to come,” he said.

Historian M.R. Raghava Varier, who presided over the function, said the life of Mr. Sankarankutty proved that no performing art would be complete without methodical training and ceaseless practice.

“Currently, we are exposed to ‘performances’ alone in various fields, including art, culture and music, where training is the least emphasised area,” he said.

Writer K.B. Raj Anand introduced the book to the audience.

A.V. Sreekumar of DC Books welcomed the gathering and Sreejith K. Warrier proposed a vote of thanks.

However, Mr. Sankarankutty couldn’t attend the programme as he met with a minor accident on way to the city. His son Sreekanth Sankarankutty represented him.
