BHUBANESWAR: Police have decided to turn the heat on bootleggers and drug peddlers near Rajdhani Engineering College (REC) at Mancheswar here following allegations of nuisance created by anti-socials around the campus.
During an interface with police on Monday, some students complained about unruly anti-socials near the college. "We will mount surveillance.
Students raised concern about illicit sale of liquor and intoxicants near the college. We will deal with liquor vendors and drug peddlers with an iron hand," said twin cities commissioner of police R P Sharma.
Police warned college students against indulging in crimes. "Though none of REC students was found on the wrong track for the past seven years, we wanted to sensitize students on how crime can spoil their career," said DCP Nitinjeet Singh.
Police said such an interface would be organized in other colleges of Bhubaneswar in the wake of alleged involvement of students in several crimes in the past.
Over 17 college students were arrested in connection with different crimes in eight months. "It is a disturbing trend. We will continue to sensitize the students and try to bring them on right track," Sharma said.
