JAMMU, Aug 18: The two day painting exhibition of Sadaf Munshi, a linguist, poet and artist, was inaugurated here today amidst great enthusiasm and huge presence of the local artists, poets, writers, intellectuals and prominent personalities from different walks of life. The exhibition, titled ‘Islands of Serenity’ was organised by the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Mohammad Yusuf Taing, Ex-Legislator and former Director General, Culture, J&K State.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Taing said that it was indeed a great occasion that a daughter of the soil, who has been living abroad for so many years, should choose her home city to exhibit her artistic creations.
Sadaf Munshi in her brief speech said that it was her earnest desire to hold the first exhibition of her paintings in Srinagar, her home town, although she had many opportunities to do so in the United States or elsewhere. She said that she’s touched by the warmth and enthusiasm which her own people had shown towards her exhibition.
Ravinder Kaul, a well known cultural activist and freelance journalist, thanked the officials of the Academy for their enthusiastic support for the exhibition and the intelligentsia of Kashmir for their whole-hearted participation. Ashraf Tak, Chief Editor, J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages conducted the proceedings.
