Scouting inculcates discipline: Wakhlu

SONAMARG, Aug 18:  Khem Lata Wakhlu, Chairperson J&K State Social Welfare Board inaugurated six days Scouting camp at Sonamarg organised by J&K Bharat Scouts and Guides, today.
344 students are participating in the camp. The participants include 237 boy scouts, 53 girl guides, 22 Rovers, 12 teachers and 20 staff members from 17 schools of Ganderbal and Srinagar Districts. This is for the first time that 32 orphan children from various orphanages including J&K Yateem Trust, Srinagar, Welfare Education Institute, Bemina and Dar-ul-Ahsaan, Chatabal are participating in the camp.
Inaugurating the camp, Wakhlu, appreciated J&K Bharat Scouts and Guides for the initiative and stressed for providing greater opportunities, especially for children from orphanages and socio-economically backward sections of the society. Wakhlu gave away Rs 10,000 to the organizers to cover the expenses of the orphan children, during the training programme.
The students presented a colourful cultural programme, including Naat competition. A booklet on scouting fundamentals was released by the chief guest and participants were issued identity cards, scarfs and woggle. The guests of honour on the occasion were Aamir Ali, Secretary J&K State Social Welfare Board, who also happens to be the District Commissioner, Scouts and Guides and Farooq Ahmed Rather, Chief Executive Officer, Sonamarg Develo-pment Authority.
