SADC fashion week regional coordinator Charlene Kunira

Internationally acclaimed celebrities will grace the inaugural Sadc Fashion Week that is scheduled to take place on September 20 to 27 at Zim Gardens in Chisipite. The unnamed stars, according to regional coordinator Charlene Kunira have confirmed their participation and will be part of the star studded guest list at the fashion extravaganza.

“We have a celebrity model and an actor who will be attending the show. There is also a renowned designer from the United Kingdom who will also be part of the proceedings at Sadac Fashion Week,” she said.

As preparations to the regional fashion fiesta intensifies, a Sadc Fashion Week Style Awards ceremony has also been slated and will take place on the sidelines of the event.

“The awards are to honour those that have been making social and economic development in the textile industry. The nominees came from the Sadc Fashion Week country committee representatives,” she said.

Some of the names that have made the list include that of “fashionister” and socialite Pokello Nare who is said to have been nominated in two categories.

Mean while, preparations for the event are at an advance with the organisers having completed their local auditions for both designers and models.

Fifteen designers have registered while 35 models from the region are coming to Zimbabwe. The show will be running under the theme: “Utilising Natural Resources while Creating Social and Economic Transformations within Southern Africa.”

The purpose of the pageant is to create dialogue with different businesses in fashion from textile suppliers, entrepreneurs to investors in fashion, culture business and tourism and the whole supply chain according to organisers.

The event will also be characterised by exhibitions and social fun events.
Its grand opening is on September 20 with a cocktail at Zim Gardens VIP. There will be regional guests and delegates from different sectors expected to attend.

Entertainment at the fashion show will be provided by popular singer Peace “BaShupi” Ndlovu together with regional artistes.
