A slew of tribal and non-tribal land disputes in the Agency of West Godavari district came to the fore at the maiden general body meeting of the Zilla Parishad under the TDP dispensation here on Sunday. B. Rajababu, the ruling TDP member from the Jeelugumilli Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC), urged the district administration to take urgent steps to ease tensions in the Agency mandals of Polavaram, Buttayagudem and Jeelugumilli, by finding a solution to the land disputes.

In the last two decades, the movement launched by certain outfits in defence of tribal people in the Agency drifted off its objective, with the movement having slipped into the hands of vested interests. As a result, the non-tribal people were feeling insecure as there was no security for their property, Mr. Rajababu said. It has become order the day in the Agency that the lands under the possession of non-tribal people were getting subjected to encroachments and the crops raised by them were destroyed, he said. The champions of tribal people were giving a scant regard for the genuineness of the records pertained to the lands under non-tribal people’s possession, he said.
