Last Updated 18 August 2014, 13:01 IST

Pandit Debashsish Bhattacharya and ‘Calcutta Chronicles’ will perform on August 23, 7 pm at Caleb Auditorium,The Saiacs CEO Centre, off Hennur Road.

It is a new world music band led by master of Hindustani slide guitar, Pandit Debashish Bhattacharya. He has an illustrious musical lineage that goes back eight generations.

He is the pioneer of Hindustani classical music on the slide guitar, which he has adapted and modified to create three uniquely expressive instruments — the chaturangui, gandharvi and anandi.

The core members of ‘Calcutta Chronicles’ are Debashish Bhattacharya on slide guitars, Subhasis Bhattacharjee on tabla and percussion, Nishad Pandey on electric guitar and Anandi Bhattacharya on vocals and special guest Aman Mahajan on keyboards.

Drawing inspiration from Panditji’s vast musical experience and his many highly-acclaimed albums, ‘Calcutta Chronicles’ is an attempt at creating a form of music that speaks to the emotions and has a universal appeal.

It consciously sets itself apart from main-stream ‘fusion’ music by focusing on Debashish Bhattacharya’s unique compositions, that are based on the essential melodic, rhythmic and thematic qualities of Indian classical music, and providing a platform for free and varied improvisations.

Each of the four members leave their own distinct imprint on the music as a result of years of training in various genres such as jazz, Hawaiian music, Latin, and Indian folk music. For tickets, log on to www.bookmyshow.com
