Ram Charan launches banner to produce his father’s 150th film

It’s official. Telugu star Ram Charan Teja, who is basking in the success of Yevadu, is set to float a home production company soon by producing his father’s 150th movie. The home banner will be launched in the last week of August where details of megastar Chiranjeevi’s 150th movie are likely to be revealed.

Apparently, Ram Charan wanted the launch last year, but was waiting for the right moment to arrive. Now that Yevadu has brought him back to the top after a disastrous performance in Thoofan, Ram Charan has taken the plunge. The name of the banner has been kept as a top secret, according to sources close to the production company.

Chiranjeevi and his extended family members already own three different movie production banners in Tollywood, but Ram Charan always wished to operate through his own banner and now it is becoming a reality.

“This is the perfect launchpad for Ram Charan as a producer. The 150th movie will be directed by V V Vinayak and other modalities are being worked out. The flick will roll out later this year. From 2015, the plan is to produce at least three movies a year, with one big-budget project. The projects will also feature stars from outside the family as well as new faces,” a source told Bangalore Mirror. It is reliably learnt that Ram Charan is hiring some of the best talent from showbiz industry in Mumbai and Hyderabad for his production house. It is clear that he wants to introduce best industry practices in production, distribution and screening.

“He was impressed with the way the corporate firms handled the distribution and release of Zanjeer/Thoofan. He wants a similar set-up in Hyderabad as well. Already, some of the well-known names in top casting firms and production houses have received calls from his office,” sources said.

One of the biggest challenges faced by Tollywood producers and distributors is the lack of transparency in ticket sales and box-office collections. Though multiplexes provide the collection list every day, it is not the same in the case of theatres outside of Hyderabad. At any given time, the manipulation could be to the extent of 30 per cent to 40 per cent, and it will have a huge impact on distributors. Ram Charan wants to ensure that he does not fall into a similar trap. The actor is busy wrapping up shooting for his latest movie Govindudu Andarivadele.

The actor is unlikely to commence shooting for his next movie before September.
