Badaun horror repeats: Woman gang-raped, hanged in West Bengal, allegedly by TMC workers

In a shocking incident eerily similar to what happened in Badaun, a woman was gang-raped, paraded naked and then hanged to death in East Midnapore district of West Bengal. The dead woman's husband is an active CPI-M worker who hasn't been able to return to his own village for last three years due to alleged atrocity of TMC workers. Incidentally, TMC won the assembly elections in 2011 and from then there have been widespread allegations of strong arm techniques used by them. 

The local CPIM unit believes TMC workers are beyond this horrific rape and killing. The victim's body was found hanging from a tree last night at Sunia village in East Midnapore district. A complaint has been lodged by the victim's family in Kanthi police station. The family claims victim used to live alone in her house. On Sunday night, a group of people entered her house and asked her to cough up 12 lakh rupees. She was asked to give this “compensation” as her husband is a CPIM worker. Since she couldn't give the money, she was first gang-raped and then paraded naked and finally killed according to complaint lost by family members. 

TMC has promptly rejected the allegation. According to local MLA Dipendu Adhikari, none from their party is involved in this incident. Police have started their probe but no suspect has been arrested so far.

Political skirmishes have increased significantly in Bengal in the last few months. In June TMC MP Tapas Paul courted controversy when he threatened opposition saying that he will unleash his boys to rape women.
