If you are a food lover, Parsi food is sure to be on your must try list. The succulent lamb, fish and chicken dishes entice your taste buds in such a way that you will keep asking for more.
On the occasion of Navroze, the Parsi New Year, we bring you the Parsi delicacies that you can indulge in at the local restaurants. Of all the dishes, dhansak ranks high on the favoured list for foodies.
The dish is essentially a dal specially cooked with vegetables, mutton or chicken in it. It is best had with brown rice. This dish is available at almost all the Parsi food outlets but you ought to try it at Rustom Restaurant located on MG Road in Camp area.
“The dhansak served here is homemade. We don’t prepare it at the venue. It is a special recipe that my mother prepares at home,” said Farheez Irani, owner of the restaurant. As the meat used in the dhansak here is marinated for a day, one needs to place the order a day in advance. “This ensures it remains authentic and delicious,” Irani added. For Darius Dorabjee, who owns the Dorabjee & Sons restaurant in Sarbatwala Chowk, Camp, it is his method of preparation that he takes pride in. “The USP of our dishes is that all of them are slow simmered and cooked. We use charcoal for cooking and don’t compromise on the taste,” said he.
