New Delhi: New Delhi: The Sultan of Brunei has made a bid for New York's Plaza Hotel, Dream Hotel and London's Grosvenor House hotel, the Wall Street Journal's website edition reported on Saturday.
An investment firm affiliated with Brunei has offered to pay $2 billion for Sahara's three hotels, WSJ.com said.
Sahara's chairman Subrata Roy working from a high-tech office in prison, has requested more time to negotiate the sale of some of his luxury hotels to help to secure bail. Roy, 65, was initially given 10 days by the Supreme Court to talk to potential bidders for three hotels, including Grosvenor House in London and the New York Plaza, to raise Rs 10,000 crore to get regular bail.
Roy has been given an office with 600 sq ft (56 sq metres) of space inside New Delhi's Tihar jail complex, where he can hold video conferences, use computers and receive visitors to try to sell or mortgage the hotels.
Roy who has been in jail for the past six months, has sought the apex court's permission for shifting to Tihar jail guest house for a week to enable him to hold negotiations to sell his properties in India and abroad. The apex court had refused to release Roy on interim bail or parole but had allowed selling of his luxury hotels.
