The Nagarika Seva Trust, Guruvayankere, has demanded that the Department of Religious and Charitable Endowment take over Sri Manjunatha Swamy Temple in Dharmasthala. In a release, the trust said the donations to the temple should be regulated and used by the government. They have also asked for stricter Reserve Bank of India regulations of micro-finance institutions.

The release added that they will organise a series of programmes involving non-governmental organisations between October and January to press for their demands.

A total of 56 NGOs from 21 districts had participated in the deliberations organised by the trust and Prajadhikara Vedike.
