BANGALORE: ''Don't judge a man until you have walked a mile in his shoes". Seemingly inspired by this old saying, hundreds of Bangaloreans will participate in blind walks, to be organized on three consecutive Sundays starting August 24.
What's interesting here is that the visually impaired will literally handhold the sighted instead of it being the other way round.

The idea is to help people experience what blindness is and emphasize the importance of eye donation. Some 1,500 persons have volunteered to participate in the event blindfolded, with 300 visually impaired persons leading them.
The inaugural walk will commence from MG Road Metro station and culminate at Jawahar Bal Bhavan. On August 31, it will be from Id Gar Masjid Gate to Christha Prabhalaya Church in Jayanagar. The programme will culminate with a walk from Narayana Nethralaya to Orion Mall, Yeshwantpur on September 7.
"More than one-third of the world's blind persons are in our country. We were moved by the statistic and decided to create awareness on eye donation,'' said Fr George Kannanthanam, social worker and director of Project Vision, the main organizers of the walk.
Project vision has been at the helm of such initiatives since October 2013, and has motivated 10,000 persons to pledge their eyes, he added. Though all major religions of the world support organ donation and transplantation, Fr George said they believe that it's an individual choice.
