Karim El Ahmadi has acknowledged that there is a good chance he will leave Aston Villa next summer to return to the Netherlands.

El Ahmadi joined Villa from Feyenoord in 2012 and has enjoyed his time in England, but he is keen to be closer to his family.

He told Dutch paper TC Tubantia: "Indeed I will be out of contract next summer and all options are open.

"But there is a big chance I will return to the Netherlands. I will turn 30 and it would be a good moment to play a couple of years in the Netherlands.

"I have lived in England for a couple of years now, but the Netherlands is still my home. I miss my family over here.

"When I have free time and it is possible I return to Enschede."

El Ahmadi has also heaped praise on Aston Villa team-mate Ron Vlaar, who enhanced his reputation with an excellent World Cup campaign.

He said: "You couldn't see anything different from Vlaar. He is still the same. But in the dressing room you feel there is even more respect for him.

"I really enjoyed how he played and developed himself at the World Cup."
