Thirteen workers were rescued on Saturday after being trapped for 140 hours in a collapsed highway tunnel.

The collapse happened at 8 pm on August 10 in Shiqian county, Guizhou province, and the 13 were trapped 600 meters from the tunnel's exit.

Rescue teams dug their way towards the men from both ends of the tunnel and were able to deliver food and water to them. Their condition was monitored through video calls.

Following the rescue the men were found to be well when medical checks were carried out at the scene, and they were then sent to hospital for further tests.
