INDORE: A citizen's duty does not end with just the unfurling of tricolour. Flags must not be discarded carelessly on roads once the celebrations are over. Members of Team Parinde, an NGO run by students and professionals picked the strewn and tattered tricolours on Friday to spread awareness among people towards this duty.
"Tattered pieces were picked from streets, drains and garbage bins.
This was done under Tiranga Abhiyaan campaign. The main objective of the campaign was to educate masses about the significance of tricolour," said Ayush Gujarati, a member of the NGO.
"It is noticed that people celebrate I-Day and R-Day with enthusiasm, but they seldom realize that the tricolour to which they have paid respect is strewn all over with people inadvertently trampling it. Flags must be disposed with dignity," he added.
This Independence Day, 'Team Parinde' picked about 550 flags in Indore alone. They would be handed over to Mhow military cantonment officials for proper disposal. Team Parinde is a group of professionals from different cities of Madhya Pradesh and Raipur, who have come together to provide social service to the people.
