INDORE: Notorious inter-state gangster Harendra Rana and his three aides, who were arrested following an encounter with the police in state's Gwalior district on May 22, were brought to Indore on Saturday by Kanadiya police in connection with May-20 firing and loot of MUV from a city-based jeweller Ratnesh Patni.
Rana, who was arrested following a brief encounter at Sachin Tendulkar Road in Gwalior on May 22, 2014, was brought along with Vikram Rana, Akash Rana and Manish Koli (all natives of Gwalior and Bhind districts of MP) to Indore on production warrant.
The four criminals will be grilled in police remand till August 23, Kanadiya police station in charge Sanjay Chaturvedi said.
During interrogation, the city police will focus on figuring out the local links of Harendra Rana in Indore and adjacent districts of Malwa-Nimar region, besides past crime committed by him and his gang members in the region.
"Besides, the police will also grill them to recover the three cell-phones, bank ATM cards and cash looted by them and his aides after shooting the city-based Ratnesh Patni on May 20," Chaturvedi added.
On the night of May 20, Harendra and his three aides intercepted an MUV being driven by young jeweller Ratnesh Patni near Mangalam Dhaba on AB Road in city's Kanadiya area. The gang members subsequently shot the jeweller in his stomach, before looting the MUV, cash, cell-phones and ATM cards, all worth around Rs 4.5 lakh.
Doctors at a private hospital in Indore had saved the jeweller's life via an urgent surgery on May 21.

Harendra, along with his three aides, however, was held following the brief encounter with police in Gwalior district on May 22 and the looted MUV was also recovered.
The gang members were subsequently booked under Sections 394 and 397 of IPC for dacoity and attempting to cause Patni's death.
Harendra is an accused in over 35 cases of loot, dacoity, murder and extortion, including 18 cases in MP and an equal number of cases in Agra-UP and New Delhi.
