INDORE: Janmashtami festival, which marks birthday of lord Krishna, will be celebrated on three dates in Indore.
Followers of various sects attribute different religious practices as the reason for difference in the date of celebration. The festival is normally celebrated 8 days after Rakshabandhan.
Followers of Smarta belief will celebrate the festival on Sunday while followers of Vaishnav sect and devotees associated with International Society of Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) will celebrate it on Monday and Tuesday.

Special arrangements are being made at ISKCON temple situated near Bypass Road. "We have decorated the temple with special lighting and flowers. A beautiful pandal is also being set up. The dresses for Radha and Krishna idols have specially brought from Vrindavan. On Monday, a cultural programme would be presented in which artistes from Bhopal, Indore and Muradabad would be performing Bheem Pratigya. It would be followed by a dance-drama. Special prayers would be offered to the lord at midnight. The main event of the fest would be organized on Tuesday, for which director of ISKCON, Acharya Prabhupad would be present," manager at the temple Swami Mahaman Das said.
In other prominent temples of the city including Gopal Mandir at Rajwada and Banke Bihari Mandir that follows the Smarta Sect, Janmashthami preparations are in the final stages.
