Hundreds gather to watch splendid Bhrachukki Falls

It was a spectacular evening at Kollegal on Mandya-Chamarajnagar border on Saturday when hundreds witnessed the shimmering Bharachukki waterfalls against the backdrop of soothing light music and mesmerizing folk dance by performing artistes.

MYSORE: It was a spectacular evening at Kollegal on Mandya-Chamarajnagar border on Saturday when hundreds witnessed the shimmering Bharachukki waterfalls against the backdrop of soothing light music and mesmerizing folk dance by performing artistes. The third edition of Jalapathotsava began here with much fanfare drawing tourists from far afar.
With over 30,000 cusecs of Cauvery water flowing out of Kabini and KRS dams, Bharachukki Falls is sporting a majestic look.
The two-day event began at 3pm with folk dancers performing Kamsale, Dollu Kunita and Pooja Kunita. It was followed by light music and folk music. On Sunday evening, visitors will be treated to music director Gurukiran's melodious notes. A food mela has been organized at the venue offering various delicacies to the travellers.
Chamarajanagar district administration, which is seeking to tap into tourist potential in the forest-rich border district, has allowed tourist vehicles to the spot unlike during last season when there was a ban on the movement of tourist vehicles. KSRTC buses are also plying between Kollegal and Bharachukki Falls to facilitate tourists. District minister H S Mahadeva Prasad accompanied by senior officials inspected the site ahead of the big event. The Jalapathotsava comes ahead of Dasara festival when tourists flood Mysore region, especially visiting the waterbodies in Cauvery basin.
