VADODARA: Shops in parts of Shahera town in Panchmahal district were shut down and tension prevailed in the area in the wake of rumour mongering after two persons were badly beaten up by members of a different community. Elaborate police security has been clamped on the town after the incident.
The alleged incident took place on Saturday afternoon near Aniyad crossroads in the town.
Police sources said the victims as well as the accused in the case had roadside shops in the same area.
"Two persons were beaten up by four others leading to some shops closing down. But a majority of the market has remained open. We have already taken three of the four accused in custody. One of the accused is a minor while another may be a minor. We are verifying his age," said Panchmahal superintendent of police Raghvendra Vatsa.
Vatsa said the reason for the incident was not known yet and both parties involved were giving different versions. "One side said that it happened as the other side was misbehaving with women, while the other attributes another reason," he said.
One of the two injured persons was rushed to Vadodara while another was being treated at Godhra.
