Girl Scouts CEO takes $83K bonus amid budget cuts

The Girl Scouts’ “cookie monster” is hungry for cash!

Anna Maria Chavez, the CEO of the Girl Scouts of the USA, gobbled up an $83,000 bonus in 2012, new tax filings show — the icing on top of a $390,000 salary.

Chavez took the helm of the storied organization in October 2011 and immediately created controversy with what staffers said was a dictatorial management style. Many longtime workers were fired or forced out.

As cookie sales declined and budget cuts were implemented at the Manhattan headquarters, Chavez renovated the executive washroom with slate and marble finishes.

The organization’s revenue dropped by $15 million in the year ending Sept. 30, 2013, and it operated at a $6 million loss, tax filings show.

Chavez’s bonus was based on the prior fiscal year when the Scouts had a nearly $6 million surplus, a spokeswoman said.

“No bonus has been or will be paid out for Fiscal Year 2013,” said Kelly Parisi.
