GUWAHATI: Tripura chief minister Manik Sarkar on Saturday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to protest against Israeli aggression in Gaza strip in keeping with India’s diplomatic tradition of continuing the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).
Addressing a public gathering in Tripura, Sarkar regretted that India is silent on Israeli’s repeated attacks on civilians in Gaza strip where more than 400 children and hundreds of women have been killed.

“We understand that India shares friendly ties with Israel, but it doesn’t mean that the latter will continue with its brutality and we, the citizens of the world’s largest democratic country, will sit idle like others,” Sarkar said.
He accused the BJP-led government of adopting double standards and departs from the country’s long-standing position on Palestine by taking a stance which is favorable to Israeli.
Unless India protests Israel’s act of violence on Palestine, our nation’s position of NAM would be diluted, which would ultimately frustrate our democratic, socialist and republican fabric, Sarkar added.
Flaying the NDA government at the Centre, Sarkar alleged that Modi has been guided by RSS ideology. The act to call India a Hindu state is dangerous and condemnable, as it is against the secular nature of the country.

The Tripura CM alleged that Centre has miserably failed to contain inflation and the escalation of prices of all essential commodities.
Expressing concern over increasing communal violence and safety issues plaguing the minority community after the Lok sabha election, he criticized BJP for patronizing Hindu and calling India as Hindustan.
The Center has decided to allow 49 % foreign capital in defense sector which will put the country’s security at stake.
“At least 30 incidents of communal violence have taken place in seven states after the government assumed office in May," Sarkar reiterated adding that the people especially Muslims, in Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Gujarat and Maharashtra were among the worst victims.
