LEH/KARGIL, Aug 16:The 68th Independence Day was celebrated with enthusiasm and fervor across the Ladakh region.
LEH: CEC, LAHDC, Rigzin Spalbar unfurled the National Tri-colour amidst a large gathering of people and parade contingents of police, paramilitary, NCC and school children. He also hoisted the National Flag at Council Secretariat in the presence of Executive Councilors, Councilors, MLC and staff of the Council Office.
Addressing the gathering at Polo Ground, CEC said that Independence Day in particular reminds us of the sacrifices made by our fore-fathers to attain freedom and of the soldiers who laid their lives to give the people of this nation a free air to breath and an independent life to cherish.
He asserted that this day is equally important for every individual of this nation and made a special appeal to all the Ladakhis to realise their responsibilities towards the society and to contribute towards the growth and development of the region in order to make Ladakh an exemplary model not only in the country but in the entire world.
He assured all the Ladakhis of a corruption free and transparent work environment, timely completion of developmental works and to make Ladakh self sustainable.
March past followed by Mass PT and colourful cultural programme were also presented on the occasion and later prizes were distributed.
Like in Leh, the Sub-Divisional HQs, Tehsil HQs, Block HQs and Niabats of Leh district also celebrated the 68th Independence Day with great patriotic fervour and gaiety.
KARGIL: Chief Executive Councilor Haji Asgar Ali Karbalaie hoisted the National Tricolor at Khree Sultan Chow Sports Stadium and took salute at an impressive march past consisting of the contingents of Jammu and Kashmir Police, NCC, Army Band Party besides Government and private schools.
Speaking on the occasion, Karbalaie recalled the supreme sacrifices of the national heroes who laid down their precious lives for the freedom of the country. He said that the freedom has been won only after paying a lot of sacrifices and it is the duty of every citizen to maintain and uphold the principles of unity and integrity. He said that post independence, the country has made rapid strides in all walks of life taking India to greater heights and similarly Kargil too has achieved progress on every front.
Colorful cultural presentations by the artists of Cultural Academy and the school children mesmerized the dignitaries and the general public on the occasion.
Independence Day was also celebrated at Sub Division Drass, Sankoo and Zanskar where the respective Sub Divisional Magistrates/ Tehsildars hoisted the National Flag, and took salute at the march past. Colorful cultural programmes were also presented by the folk artists and the school children.
